Joining ROTC
ROTC is an incredible leadership experience that can compliment your academic pursuits in college. Through a combination of academic coursework and experiential learning you will gain the skills necessary to be an Officer in the US Army. Students in ROTC can study any major in school and still participate in clubs, organizations, fraternity/sorority life, etc.
How to begin your ROTC experience
Option 1: Apply for the Army National Scholarship
We know students who earn the Army National High School Scholarship intend to participate in the ROTC Program. We begin communicating with these students as soon as scholarship winners are announced.
Option 2: Register for Class
Don’t have the national scholarship? That is ok! Any student can “try out” ROTC by simply registering for our first year military science class. There is no obligation to serve in the Army by taking the introductory course.
Students considering joining ROTC after their first-year of college should contact to discuss options based on your remaining time in college.
We are No Fear!

Typical cadet week…
- Take one military science course. In your first year you take a one credit hour class that meets once a week. Credits increase in subsequent years.
- Take courses for your major. Cadets typically take 15-17 credits towards their desired major.
- Take the ROTC lab course. Each week students take a three hour hands-on lab course with the rest of the Battalion.
- Physical Training. Participate in weekly group physical training three times a week. Don’t worry-we make it fun!
Typical cadet semester…
- Attend a Field Training Exercise. Join your fellow cadets for an interactive field training exercise off campus.
- Complete the Army Fitness Test. At the beginning and end of the semester you complete the Army Fitness Test (AFT).
- Participate in ROTC events. Cadets volunteer to assist with three program events of their choosing.
- Participate in clubs and organizations. Cadets are often involved in various university activities such as intramural sports and greek life.
“My favorite aspect of ROTC has been the community of people it has given me.”
